The Story Behind the Writer: Eva Lucas

Eva Lucas is the pseudonym of Croatian author and artist Katija Restović. Her artistic work has always been multilayered: from film, music videos, and photography to literature, where she finds the space to transform all these forms into words.

As Eva Lucas, she published the novels Pan American Highway (2001), Henry Tools Film (2002), and Placida Curatto (2002). Today, she is working on the Black Oats trilogy — with the first two books, Black Oats and Secret Order, already completed, while the third part, The Last Relic, is currently in progress.
In parallel, she is developing the novel Vegas Double, as well as a collection of short stories with the working title At the Edge of the Night — a series of prose miniatures of dramatic intensity, dedicated to inner tensions and the psychological depth of characters.

Alongside her novels, Katja has also written two monodramas and six theatre plays, including They’re All the Same Under My Skin, In a Hurry, Night of Theatre, Your Face Sounds Dangerous, as well as the adaptations The Princess and the Pea and The Emperor’s New Clothes.

For Katja — or Eva — writing is another form of artistic expression, a way for art, on which she has always built her life, to gain a new face and open yet another window into imagination and illusion.

Pan American Highway

A razor-sharp thriller on the legendary road linking Mexico and the United States—where crime, desire, and danger ride side by side.

The Maserati was racing down the Pan American Highway. The sweltering heat poured mercilessly through the lowered windows, and the only breath of freshness came from a cardboard air freshener swinging on the radio knob. Her gaze fixed in the distance. Through the haze rising from the steaming asphalt, the outline of a human figure could be seen staggering under the weight of a large backpack that nearly dragged along the ground. “Jill was right,” Glenn thought. She slowed the car and leaned her elbow out the window.

Placida Curatto

Behind the glittering stage lights hides a secret world of debts, family ties, and shadows of the Italian underworld.

Will Italy’s beloved star survive? Will her audience be left alone? Ana Leone has suffered a car accident… Headlines in Magazzini Forma, Donna, and Cosmopolitan were nothing short of sensational.

Henry Tools Film

A staged kidnapping turns into a deadly spiral—when a Hollywood mogul learns he can’t script real life.

Henry Tools, producer and owner of the major Los Angeles film distribution company Tools Film, attempts to stage his own kidnapping with his lover and director Carol Kowinski, inspired by the screenplay Between Us written by the unstable young Peter Barbariga.

Through a series of escapades—and during the trial for Carol Kowinski’s murder—we uncover the unofficial, behind-the-scenes lives of Henry, Carol, and Peter, the central players in this fast-paced, entangled crime story.
