„The Door of Redemption“ story
Martin Vellovich, a priest from Tar, 1796, is a visionary and magician because of whom Marija Zelonkovich (a widow from the village) the county governor Vukovich and Mate Corazza (a priest from the neighboring village of Vabriga) join forces to report, for diferent motives (economic prestige, faith and jealousy), the Case „Processo Vellovich“ to Council X in Venice.
In an interesting emotional thriller with hints of the paranormal, the mute Antonija (a girl with unusual abilities) and cavallier Mattei who, in service of Venetian officials, questions the villagers about Vellovich’s suspicious behaviour, as well as the esoteric Martin Vellovich form an unusual love triangle (Vellovich – Antonija – Mattei). This leads the film (along with the dark custodian) through magic, cults, various ritualistic actions and to an unexpected ending.
In the big fire that consumed the secret laboratory, an unexpected turn takes place where every suspicion is lifted from Vellovich and the question arises: Is the ‘curse’ of the village Tar completed or will it continue, and who is in fact the true culprit for the strange and overwhelming events that took place in 1796 in Tar. The answer is found at the end of the film – more precisely, we are left without the true answer and in serious doubt: Where and how shall the ‘evil or good fate’ of Martin Velovich continue.
