Loris, the tavern keeper from The Black Oath (Vrata Iskupljenja) — brought to life through the interpretation of Edvin Liverić

Edvin Liverić was born in 1970 in Rijeka, where he completed his primary and secondary education. He graduated in acting from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb in 1995. He was a member of the Croatian National Theatre ensemble in Varaždin, and later joined the Zagreb Youth Theatre (ZKM).

From 1996 to 2005 he taught as an external collaborator at the Academy of Dramatic Arts (Department of Stage Movement), and since 2013 he has been a collaborator at the University of Rijeka on the study programme “Acting, Media, Culture”. He is a long-time member of the Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance, where he worked as selector and assistant to the artistic director of the Contemporary Dance Week Festival. From 2003 to 2016 he served as artistic director of the Street Art Festival in Poreč. He is also a co-founder of the theatre collective TRAFIK.

Deeply connected with dance theatre and physical theatre, Edvin has performed in numerous productions in Croatia and abroad, including Imago, Longing, 50% (EXIT Theatre), Hamper, Kraljevo, Insektarium, Event in the City of Goga, Around the World in 80 Days, Alice (ZKM), The Trial, Woyzeck (CNT Varaždin), The Border, Dundo Maroje (Italian Drama HNK Rijeka), The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (Mittlefest – Italy), Koora (HIPP / Ljubljana Dance Theatre), and Crossings (TRAFIK & The Necessary Stage – Singapore).

He works as a movement director on many theatrical productions in Croatia and Slovenia, and has appeared in both Croatian and international film and television projects. He has directed numerous productions in Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary, and is Croatia’s long-standing representative in the European theatre network Aerowaves. He is the recipient of the Vladimir Nazor Award as part of the ensemble of Imago. He currently serves as director of the Croatian Cultural Centre Sušak.

Katja Restovic, the author of the novel The Gates of Atonement and the director of the film trailer — in which Edvin portrays Loris, the local innkeeper, murderer and criminal — says:

“I’ve known Edvin almost my entire life, and we have been close friends for many years, so working with him is a true joy. We’ve collaborated on many projects — from the Street Art Festival and fashion shows to acting workshops and various artistic and theatrical productions.

He is exceptionally creative, responsible and someone you can always rely on. We talked extensively about this film and he offered many valuable insights from his own experience. Besides being an excellent actor, he is also a director, which brings an effortless flow to the work on set — and his acting talent completes that circle beautifully.”
