The film crew hurriedly sets up the cameras, lighting assistants adjust the intensity of the lights, while make-up artists prepare the lead actors – a scene that could be witnessed at the Žatika Sports Hall, where one of the many scenes for the music video of renowned rock musician Dado Topić was filmed. The video accompanies his song “Jakove moj” and is part of a four-day shoot. As director Katja Restović explains, the video is created in a pure rock spirit, perfectly suited to an artist like Dado Topić.
“This is the third video I have directed for him. The first was filmed in Rijeka and Grobnik for the song Apsolutno sve, followed by the video for Ti, and now this is the third one – for the song Andrija. The composer and producer for all three songs and videos is Damir Farkaš,” said Katja Restović.
The story of the video is gentle, powerful, and timeless. It depicts a father who, one Christmas morning, sits at the piano and composes a song for his son – a song filled with love, support, and the kind of advice every parent wishes to pass on to their child: to live honestly, sincerely, and with strength; to believe in oneself and in others. These values are portrayed through three life stages: childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
Dado and his rock band, filmed in the Žatika venue, act as narrators throughout the entire video, delivering the song in their distinctive rock style,” explains Restović, who has collaborated with many well-known singers from the Croatian music scene. Their collaboration with Topić has already produced outstanding results, and this is now their third joint project.
The video was filmed at numerous locations and featured more than twenty actors and extras. The role of the young boy (aged 5–6) is played by Filip Ružić, the teenager is portrayed by Topić’s son Rea, while the adult man in his thirties is played by Goran Goleš.
Alongside Katja Restović, who directed and edited the video, the production team includes cinematographer Josip Ružić from Rosa Art, camera, lighting and sound assistants Marin Brkljača and Mirza Novalija from Minoc d.o.o., along with a camera crane. The make-up was done by Robert Kozjak with assistant Terezija Ružić.
“Jakove moj is a new song and it is not meant to be a mainstream hit – it is a song for the Christmas season. Croatia Records decided to release a remake of my album Apsolutno sve, which will also include this song and the video as part of the promotional campaign. Since Christmas music often revolves around traditional themes, this song comes from a different world. If Jesus is the son of us all, we wanted to approach this theme from this particular angle,” says Topić.
The lyrics and music were written by Damir Farkaš, who is also the producer of the video, while the audio recording was made at the Smokva Studio run by Dragutin Smokovac. The CD will be
