Alan Hranitelj is a Slovenian costume designer born in Zagreb and educated at the School of Applied Arts. Since the mid-1980s, he has lived and worked in Slovenia. Following his collaboration on the performance Baptism Under Triglav in 1986, he began his professional career in Ljubljana, where he gradually established himself as an author with a strong and recognizable visual identity.
At the time of his appearance at Fashion News, Hranitelj was a young author in the early stage of his creative career, already noted for his distinctive aesthetic, serious approach, and clearly articulated artistic language. His collection attracted attention for its precision, coherence, and artistic consistency, leaving a strong impression on both the audience and the professional community.
Reflecting on that period, Katija Restović highlights the professional and collaborative nature of his participation:
“Alan Hranitelj was our guest, a Slovenian creator who presented an exceptionally well-received collection at Fashion News. He participated several times and made a strong impression each time. He was highly professional, open, and dedicated to collaboration; everything was agreed upon clearly, precisely, and with great mutual trust.”
Over the years, Hranitelj has built an extensive and respected body of work across theatre, opera, ballet, contemporary dance, film, and television costume design, while also working as a fashion designer in the early phase of his career. He has collaborated with numerous Slovenian and international theatres and prominent directors, and his work is distinguished by strong visual expression, artistic consistency, and a high level of precision.

A significant milestone in his international career was his collaboration with the Canadian theatre company Cirque du Soleil, for which he designed costumes for the production Zarkana, which premiered in New York and was later performed for many years in Las Vegas.
Today, his works are part of permanent collections in leading Slovenian museums, and his career includes numerous solo and group exhibitions as well as published monographs that frame his long-standing artistic practice. Alan Hranitelj holds an important and recognizable position in contemporary European costume design.
