The theatre performance The Princess and the Pea was created as an adaptation of the well-known fairy tale. As Katja Restović emphasizes, the creative process was a true pleasure, filled with playfulness, emotion and a strong sense of ensemble collaboration, resulting in a visually rich and sensuous theatrical work.
The costume design and Production
A strong emphasis was placed on lighting and costume design, which played a key role in shaping the stage atmosphere. The costume design was created by Kristina Nefat, an outstanding designer whose imaginative and precise work gave the performance a distinctive visual identity.
The production featured a large ensemble, with all members of Mrkovci involved. The roles of the King and the Queen were performed by Azeglio Picco and Alenka Korelić-Lučić, alongside the rest of the ensemble, who contributed through acting, movement, choreography and dance. As Katja Restović points out, it was essential that all performers were equally present on stage and actively involved in the complex theatrical structure of the piece.
Music
A special emotional layer was added through the music, composed by my dear friend Zoran Trubić – adds Katja Restović. The performance includes two beautiful love songs and one duet, performed by Max Hozić and Stefania Hasime, enhancing the tenderness, romance and emotional depth of the story.
The performance was presented as a guest production at the Golden Lion Festival in Umag, and staged several times at the Poreč Theatre and in Pula. It was, concludes Katja Restović, a deeply emotional, sensual and visually playful production, enjoyed not only by her as the author, but, she believes, also by the directors and by all her dear Mrkovci who created and performed it together.
